Luis Roberto Lara Ramos
Luis Lara is an attorney who graduated from the University of Guadalajara
(1997), He has a Master Degree in International Tax Law (LLM on International
Taxation) from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands (2000) and a PhD in
Law (with an honorable mention) from the National Autonomous University of
México (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) 2006.
Luis has been recognized in years 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 as a leading
tax lawyer by Chambers and Partners, an important publishing company from
the United Kingdom.
Luis has more than twenty years of experience in legal matters, ten years of
which he has spent working on both national and international tax matters. He
has worked for several law firms in Mexico in corporate and tax matters, and
has worked as a Manager of International Tax Services in one of the Big Four
most known accounting firms in the world. He also worked in said firm in New
York for a short period of time.
He has assisted clients from several types of industries, such as, service,
maritime, telecommunications, Internet marketing, sports, real estate and
mining, among others.
Luis obtained first place in the contest “Arturo Ramos Romero” 1998 Edition,
organized by the University of Guadalajara, for the best professional thesis in
Constitutional Law with his thesis entitled “Constitutional Analysis of the Bi-
national Panels established under Chapter 19 of the NAFTA”. He also obtained
an honorable mention for the same thesis by the National Chamber of
Commerce of Guadalajara in June of 1998. In 2003, he studied the Diploma in
Taxes of the Colegio de Contadores Públicos de México, among other courses.
Author of the book "Analysis of the International Tax Law", edited by Dofiscal,
Lexis Nexis, first edition, 2008, and compiler and coauthor of the book
"International Taxation, Selected Topics, edited by the Porrua in 2011. He is
currently the Mexican correspondent for the "Bulletin for International Taxation
issued by the IBFD, in the Netherlands, where he publishes articles from time
to time. Luis has also several publications in other magazines that specialize in
both national, as well as, international tax matters, such as in Tax Notes
International and Puntos Finos. He is currently Tax Professor at the Instituto
Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM). He has been invited to give
conferences in several institutions such as the Public Accountants Associations
(in Cancun, Guadalajara, Nuevo León and Nuevo Laredo) and in several
Universities such as the Universidad Panamericana (Panamerican University) in
Mexico City, Universidad Lasalle (Lasalle University) in Mexico City and the
Universidad Iberoamericana (Iberoamercan University) in Saltillo. He was
professor of the Tax Litigation lecture at the Universidad Panamericana
(Panamerican University) in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in years 2007 and
He is an active member of the International Fiscal Association, located in the
Netherlands, where he is currently member of the Studies Committee, IFA
Mexican Group, where he was also member of the General Council and the
coordinator of the Studies Committee in Guadalajara for the period from
September 2007 to May 2010.
Luis is currently a Mercantile Notary Public (Corredor Público) applicant as he
approved an exam applied by the Commerce Minister and he is member of the
National Researchers System in Mexico.

Katya Medina is an attorney who graduated from the University of
Guadalajara, through the modality of Academic Excellence "with honors"
(1997). She studied an LLM at the University of Cambridge, in England (1998),
with majors on Intellectual Property, International Sales, Conflicts of Laws and
WTO, specializing in Intellectual Property matters.
Studied International Private Law at the International Court of Justice in the
Hague, the Netherlands, and she has taken courses on Licensing of Author´s
Rights in the University of New York, (NYU) in the U.S. She also studied a
Diploma on Intelectual Property that was imparted by the Autonomous
University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) (2000).
Worked in the Secretariat of Economy of the State of Jalisco, in the area of
legal counseling for the installation of new enterprises in Jalisco. She has also
worked in several corporations, both in Guadalajara, as well as, in Mexico City,
where she had the opportunity to work in the area of Intellectual Property as
well as in the legal and corporate areas.
She has assisted clients from several industries, such as, manufacturing,
services, Internet Marketing, sports, etc.
Languages: She speaks and writes English and Spanish. She was authorized
as an expert translator for the Supreme Court of the State of Jalisco during
approximately 9 years. (1992- 2001) and by the Consejo de la Judicatura del
Estado de Jalisco in years 2006, 2007 and 2008.
